Major Ice Maker Disappointment

We have owned this model for six years, Model WRS965CIAM00. The ice trays from time to time overflow and the water doesn't shut off unless I depress the lever for the water on the outside of the door. Technicians have replaced everything they can think of replacing. Some parts twice. The last part changed at the base of the ice maker on the door stopped the issue for over a year until today when the same old issue happened. Luckily I was home to stop the water flow. Of course the extended warranty has expired. We are totally disappointed and tired of shutting the ice maker off when we are not in the same room to keep the water from flooding our house.

We've had this since 2013 and it has mostly performed to expectations. With that said, I don't think I would recommend to any friends or purchase another Whirlpool refrigerator. The ice maker makes ice about 2 hours a month. I have defrosted the line several times and the maker works for about 3 hours. Seems crazy that the line would continue to freeze! Also seems crazy that I would have to defrost the line daily just to get ice.

I had this refrigerator for 4 years, for the last year or so the water dispenser didn't work 100% of the time. It was like a game, is it going to dispense or not. I was told it was the water filter so I purchase the recommended brand it would work then stop again. It would freeze food in the refrigerator size, no the vents are not blocked. Now the drip pan overflows all over the floor. I'm not willing to call repairman and spend good money after bad. Guess what if I buy a new one in the next week or so, it will not be a whirlpool.

Sad Experience I have been committed to Whirlpool appliances (my entire kitchen and laundry across multiple houses), but this experience was not very good. Like others, I purchased it in the fall of 2013. The past year has been a nightmare. Initially, the ice maker stopped dispensing ice. I had my first service call and they determined that I needed a new ice maker motor. I paid to have the motor replaced. It then stopped working again and I paid for another call (via the Whirlpool website) and they said the electronic board needed to be replaced. Now it no longer makes ice and I am told that the door would need to be replaced. Per the technician, the wiring to the freezer door is substandard and is pinched every time the door is opened. I called Whirlpool customer service and they said there is nothing that can be done. Based on this experience, I now need to shop for a new refrigerator and likely my run with Whirlpool appliances. I expected a better experience.

I have had issues with the ice maker since new. It took numerous technician visits(and replacement parts) before it was finally repaired. It turned out to be a kink in the door wiring which required replacement of the whole door. Luckily I purchased the extended warranty. After 4 years of ownership the tray still overflows at least twice a month-thankfully is shuts off before major flooding. I purchased a microwave, oven, dishwasher and refrigerator together. All with stainless steel finish. The finish on both the fridge and microwave I terrible-Even after cleaning the same blotches show up after a week or so. I can't wait to replace these appliances

Purchased this refrigerator 5 years ago as part of kitchen renovation. Had problems from the start. Several warranty repairs visits later was told "is the best they can do" and I should live with my issues. Six months ago the ice maker stopped working. Replaced the water line...two weeks later it stopped again. Now told to "hire an electrician" to look at the wiring in the door or "replace the door, but if you have to do that you should just buy a new one." Thanks Whirpool!

This 4 year old refrigerator has been leaking on my wood floors on and off for over a year now. The ice maker tends to clog with ice causing the leak. Have to take the ice maker apart to unclog, or call for an out of warranty repair. I expected more than 3 years from such an expensive high end appliance as it now has to be replaced.

We bought all Whirlpool kitchen appliances when we renovated in the fall of 2013. The first fridge did not work and was replaced (with a fight) after installation. The second fridge worked wonderfully for 4 years!! Then the ice maker motor and another ice maker part died and were replaced. 6 months later (now) the ice maker is dead again (has to shut off the water because it was pouring out onto the floor) and also the compressor!! It is clicking extremely loudly and starting to ice up. Instead of paying hundreds of dollars to a repairman for "out-of-warranty" work, we are looking for a replacement... but not another whirlpool.

This looks nice in the kitchen. If you have never had a counter depth you will realize you gave up a lot of room in the frig for looks. This is our second one, I would not personally purchase another one, but it came with the new house. Operates well and has nice glass shelves. The door water and ice dispenser is not a good design, it has a delayed response and you have to push really hard to get it to operate, I don't think most kids would be able to operate it, it is hard for us to get it to work.

Purchase the refrigerator about 3 years ago, and am still amazed at its unique features - (1) Freezes food in the refrigerator (2) Does not allow water to be dispensed when the refrigerator door (not freezer door) is opened; a unique feature that no other model does (sorry for the sarcasm) and (3) Has a door that continues to slide down and has to be adjusted to shut properly.

I bought this 18 months ago, and the fan motor failed, causing me to lose all the food in the fridge section. This is a simple failure to meet stakeholder expectations. I'm appalled that it is standard for parts to break in essentially new hardware, and that these companies only stand behind their work for a year unless you pay extra.

Overall very happy with refrigerator. There are some things I wish operated different. IceMaker throws icechips everywhere when making ice especially in the crush mode. Have to push too hard to get water or ice. Wish it had a sensor for when you wanted water or ice.

I bought this refrigerator without seeing it first at any store. I was interested in a counter depth, white, side-by-side refrigerator, and this one appeared to fit my needs. However, none of the stores I checked in South Florida carries it. The space is sufficient, I believe, unless there are many people in the household. I have read a few negative comments about the limited ice maker capacity, which is not very large, but it does not bother me. It has proven to be enough for me and for when I have visitors for dinner. Yes, the ice dispenser is somewhat noisy, but I do not care much. The refrigerator is quiet when running. The lights in the interior are great, the shelves are perfect, and the wine rack is very useful and original. Last, the looks are great despite being a white appliance, mostly because of the metal handles. The previous refrigerator I had was also a Whirlpool, bought 10+ years ago, and still working. I just changed it for this one because I wanted something more modern. The one thing that I would add is more flexibility to where place the shelves., limited now to the few options that come with it.

Great Refigerator in Hard to Fit Space

We bought this refrigerator 2 months ago. We have a hard to fit space in our kitchen with cannot take the standard 35.75 with plus we needed countertop depth. Not only did this refrigerator fit into our space but it looks great and runs really well. You can occasionally hear the ice drop into the bin but overall is quiet and we love the LED lights and control panel to check and adjust temps.We wanted the white color and the silver handle looks very sharp. Would buy again.

The freezer and refrigerator work great! Our ice maker on the other hand does not. We have had repair techs out to our house 4 times to fix the ice maker. Three of the service calls were due to the ice maker failing to make ice. The last service call was a bit scarier. I woke up to water leaking and pooling onto my kitchen floor. Luckily it had just run an ice making cycle, but the water did not turn off. I pulled the refrigerator out from the wall and shutoff the water supply. Just wondering if i had not woke up when i did, would my kitchen have been flooded? Would my walls and cabinets be covered for damage? The technician installed two shims on the door and said it was fixed. Lets hope so.

It has been quite awhile since I've purchased appliances, but I've never been told that I have to "break-in" the refrigerator. I've had 2 separate service companies come to my home because the doors do not line up correctly. The gasket around the freezer door is "smashed tight", but not on the refrigerator door. I was told that once the fridge is "broken-in", the gasket on the fridge door will eventually "smash tighter", therefore the doors will be even. One service company said I was lucky I didn't have slate floors because that would make it worse. Well, the last fridge I bought was put on a slate floor and we never had this problem with having to "break-in" the refrigerator so the doors would be even. They were even to begin with.

I love the brightness & the ability to put larger items (milk) in the door. I also like the ice maker in the door of the freezer which opens more space for frozen foods.

Delivered January 12th 2015 and have already had two service calls on the icemaker. Service technicians can't find the problem. Icemaker has been changed out, pressure checked and valve changed. Unit shoots water in the freezer freezing up everything. It's going back to the store.

I got this couple of months ago. I am totally satisfied with it. I read a couple of places that said it was loud. It is close to my living room and I don't hear it running. I may hear the ice maker once in a while when the house is totally quiet. It's beautiful and works GREAT. The lights are nice. The shelves are good too. The only thing I would say to add to this refrigerator is make the shelves adjustable. Other than that it is perfect.

The refrigerator was a perfect upgraded replacement to the18 year old one we had. The old one failed and needed to be replaced. This one is quieter, more space and fits in the same hole, and the ice maker is much better than out last. It down-feeds the ice cubes so they always come out without a jam-up, and the size of the cubes are smaller... better. The built in water filter makes a difference... we noticed the better taste in the water right away. We looked over six different models and they all had a over all size problem. This one fits and has more room inside. It is white to go with the rest of the appliances we have, but it has stainless steel handles to help a cross over in the future.

I purchased this refrigerator and loved everything about it until 4 months in, my ice maker started leaking water. It was determined that my ice maker needing replacing. The new ice maker arrived and made ice, but the level would not turn to allow the ice to dispense. I now have one of those on order and will have the repair company out a 4th time to repair my now 5 month old refrigerator. Quality does not seem too high on this unit with the parts being used.

We used this refrigerator to replace a top freezer that was a problem for we older folks. We chose counter depth to make more room in the kitchen, so the capacity is small, but its capability is excellent. It cools and freezes wonderfully, the LED lights make everything easy to see, and it is laid out quite logically.
